Al Omari Great Mosque was established on the site of the Crusader Temple of Saint John, built earlier in the 13th century. Significantly affected by time and war, it was restored to its original structure by the Hariri Foundation for Sustainable Human Development and was rewarded ‘The Agha Khan Architectural Award.’ Famous for its spacious praying hall and square, this mosque has long served as the main mosque of Old Saida where Islamic occasions are celebrated.
