Previously called Jameh Al Mouhtasseb, the Bab El Saray Mosque is the oldest mosque in Old Saida, built by Sheikh Abu Al Yaman bin Abi Ishaq Ibrahim in 1202 AD. Today, it is known as Jameh Bab El Saray due to its adjacency to the entrance door (bab) of the Fakhreddine II Saray (government centre). Its minaret overlooks the Bab El Saray Square and its surrounding cafés and neighbourhoods.
